About Honestly HVAC

I'm Jim. If I'm going to be in your attic, you should know who I am and be able to check my license, so both are on this page.

Who I am

I went to HVAC trade school at 17. Playing bass guitar is another passion of mine, which is about the only time you'll see me holding something other than a meter.

I moved to Tucson in 2011 and worked for a larger company out of Phoenix. That's where I learned the local, desert version of the trade, with attics that reach 140 degrees in July, rooftops that resemble mirrors and drain lines that clog with monsoon dust. A lot different than the Midwest. I couldn’t get enough, though. That’s when Honestly HVAC was born.

I have a small staff for extra hands on installs, but the person who answers your call is the person who opens up your system and writes down what's wrong with it. And even repair it, if you approve.

The rule I work by: most afforbale repair first

When I open up a unit, I look first for anything causing problems. Then the most affordable repair that solves the current problem, and I tell you the problem for approval

Every visit starts the same way. The initial service call is $125 and covers a full hour of diagnostics.

*Includes travel to your home and up to one hour of HVAC diagnostics and troubleshooting. I’ll explain what I find and discuss repair options and pricing before you approve any repairs. Repairs and additional diagnostic time cost extra, with your approval.

You get my findings in writing before any further work. Book a $125 service call.

It's the line from my old website, and I still stand by it:

we can tell you what IS the problem and what CAN be a problem down the road.

Most of the time the repair is only a part. Rite Way's June 2026 audit of 100 Tucson repair calls found a failed capacitor in 50 of them, and a capacitor is one part I swap while the rest of your system stays where it is.

The no-upsell promise

I earn no commission on anything I recommend. You get my findings in writing before I propose any further work. I'll tell you straight when a system should be replaced and when it shouldn't.

Parts carry the maker's warranty, and my labor on a repair is covered for twelve months.
