HVAC services in Tucson

I run Honestly HVAC on my own, so the person who answers the phone is the one who opens your unit. Every job starts with a service call: includes 1 hour of diagnostics, then my findings in writing, with the cheapest fix that will hold listed first.

AC service and repair

You call, I come out, and your first hour goes to diagnostic and troubleshooting, finding out why the house is warm, or cold. I check the charge, the capacitor and contactor, the blower, the drain and the thermostat, then write down what I found with the most affordable repair at the top of the page. Most Tucson calls end with one part replaced, and the price table shows what those parts usually cost around town

From June 15 to September 30 the monsoon adds humidity and dust. That is when condensate drains clog and float switches shut systems off in the middle of a sticky afternoon.

Running R-410A? It is still legal to run and repair. Refrigerant is the one cost going up; the parts are not.

R-22 systems are welcome. If they’re working well, keep them going with maintenance checks.

Heating and heat pumps

In a lot of Tucson homes the heat comes from the same heat pump that cools the house in July, running in reverse. The rest have a gas furnace. Heating season here is short, mostly December to February, so a system that sat idle since spring can surprise you on the first cold night.

The same $125 service call covers heating, too.

Maintenance plans

Two visits a year. The first comes by the end of March, ahead of the first 100 degree day, which fell on March 19 in 2026; the second in October, after the monsoon has packed the outdoor coil with dust and before you want heat. Keep your furnace or heat pump going for the winter.

Each visit ends with a light cleaning, written findings for current/future repairs needed, just the same as my service call. Both checklists and the plan price are under maintenance plans.

System replacement

When the numbers say a system is finished, my replacement quote comes with a Manual J load calculation, so the new unit is sized to your house, rather than copied off the old nameplate. Pima County's permit application for an AC replacement asks for the Manual J, S and D calculations anyway. More on Manual J load calculations.

There is no federal tax credit for systems installed in 2026.

Businesses

Small offices and shops, usually with a rooftop or package unit or two. The visit runs the way it does for a house, and the written findings are something you can forward to the owner or the landlord.

I can book maintenance before you open or after you close, so nobody shops in a warm room while the panel is off. The schedule and both checklists are under maintenance plans.

Prices

Row one and two are my rates and doesn't move. The other rows are the ranges Tucson shops publish for the same repairs. Ask me for the exact figure when you book. I promise I’m as affordable as I can be.

Repair or replace

Repair

Twelve to fourteen years

That is how long a central AC usually lasts in Tucson. A system inside that span with one failed part gets the part.

Plan for it

$9,000 to $16,500

A full replacement in Tucson usually lands in this range. Where yours falls depends on the tonnage, the ducts, whether the panel can carry the new unit, and the permit.

Watch

R-22

Plenty of older Tucson systems still run on R-22. Repairing a leak on one of these runs $600 to $1,500 and even higher, which is usually where the arithmetic starts to favor a new system. *R-22 is still available, but higher in price. Topping off a leaking R-22 system without leak detection just prolongs the problem. We will diagnose and give a written report of the state of the system.

Your report carries BOTH numbers: the repair and the replacement, and the choice stays yours. No pressure from me. A system on R-410A is still legal to repair, and I decide repair or replace on its own numbers, not on refrigerant rules. Size it right before you buy.

Before you call

What does the $125 service call include?

1 hour of diagnostics on the whole system: refrigerant charge, capacitor and contactor, the blower, the drain and the thermostat. You get my findings in writing before I offer any further work.

Is the $125 the same after hours?

No. The $125 is for a visit in my working hours or one we book ahead. A call after hours is $200.

Does the $125 go toward the repair?

I'll tell you when you book whether the $125 counts toward the repair on your visit.

Will you tell me if it is just a capacitor?

Every time. I truly like to be honest about repairs/replacements. The cheapest fix that solves the problem goes first on the findings sheet. In a June 2026 audit of 100 Tucson repair calls, half involved a capacitor.

How long does an AC last in Tucson?

Twelve to fourteen years is typical here. Summer 2026 had 70 days at 100 F or more, and an outdoor coil caked with monsoon dust makes the compressor run hotter through every one of them. Maintenance plans help with keeping your components from struggling over the years.

Do you work on commercial units?

Small offices and shops, rooftop and package units included. The hour of diagnostics and the written findings work the same way they do at a house. More under businesses.

Five checks before you call

  1. Thermostat set to cool, at least three degrees under the room temperature.
  2. The breaker for the air handler and the one for the outdoor unit, and the grey disconnect box on the wall beside the condenser.
  3. The filter. A clogged one can freeze the indoor coil, so if you change it, leave the system off for an hour before restarting.
  4. Water at the air handler or a tripped float switch, which shuts the system down on purpose.
  5. After a power cut, give it five minutes before you restart.

If it still isn't cooling, call or send the details and I'll come out.
